City of Kent Suggestions On How to Reduce Yard Waste
- Allow materials to settle within your cart over a few days, which may provide additional space.
- If your cart is full one week, store branches and bulky debris until your next pickup.
- Backyard composting is an excellent option. The City of Kent offers a composter and rain barrel sale (limited quantities each spring). This year the sale will be Saturday, March 26 at 9:00 a.m. at Russell Road Park.
- Mulching mowers cut grass blades into tiny pieces which will make it possible to leave the material on lawn as a free natural fertilizer.
- Spring and fall curbside events will continue. This allows for up to ten additional 32-gallon units per event at no additional charge.
- Christmas tree collection will continue to be offered each January at no additional cost.
- Personal mulchers allow residents to mulch branches and use the end product in flower beds and gardens to beautify and suppress weeds.
- The King County website lists additional locations where materials (including yard waste) can be dropped off: http://your.kingcounty.gov/solidwaste/wdidw/
